Adopting
a
phone box
Kiosk Address: Jctn George St Pco1 Hutcheon Street Aberdeen, AB25 3RS
Kiosk Type: ST6
We are presently is the process of trying to adopt this BT box. An individual cannot adopt a phone box. An organisation can but it must contain a defibrillator. Art with a heart. Watch this space.
An art machine
Coordinates gallery is a collective group of artists, poets, designers, historians, geographers and local creatives. We are repurposing two vending machines and we are presently creating art for urban spaces. Our first vending machine will be placed in George Street and is funded by Acorn funding from Aberdeen City council. The art contained in each machine will be inspired by people and place.
28th October update.
Location and adoption of phone box is proving difficult as it needs to involve a defibrillator. We are looking at other structures and plans for how we can mount the machine. So far on the project we have artist David McCracken creating work and poet Jo Gilbert. The design of the Art machine and urban aesthetics is being curated by Emma Innes-Brown.
22nd February update
We have managed to find a location outside the old John Lewis on George Street and the machine is presently being fitted for a weather proof aluminium rain jacket by George MacBain & Co. There have been many conversations with Dylan from the council about pole size, cement blocks and other random websites that you never imagined you would be researching.
April Update
George MacBain did a great job of the cover and a big thanks to the team who helped, especially Scott who had many a phone call about the art machine. Finally the machine came home and we started getting ready to put its face on. Emma insisted we clean the machine as I was just wanting to get painting. Although I always cleanse my face before applying products so why would it be different with a machine.
Finally we started painting and it was so exciting, it looks great. So traffic yellow and it will blend in with the street and attract minimal negative attention hopefully. Jo Gilbert has recorded her poem and Neil at Peacocks is putting together the prints we need. It is coming together. Watch this space.
