Sara Margaret Hanafi Herd Stroud
For a woman that’s never been married I’ve had a lot of surnames. I was estranged from my Moroccan Dad, and grew up in Scotland with my Mum, Step Dad and had a big family. I travelled widely in my 20’s. The EU was the rich daddy I never had. Like a salmon I came home to Aberdeen and birthed my two daughters. I found a sensible job Lecturing and this has allowed me to be creative and pay my bills.
My eldest daughter, Anousha is 20 now. I dream about travelling. My Berber soul sings to me, and my Scottish one frets about not having enough money in my pension. As much as I am grieving the waning of my fertility. I’m also over the physical and emotional demands of “mothering” although part of me still wants to breast feed the world.
Much of my work is inspired from my experiences of being a woman, mother, daughter, and human of this planet. I have much to say, share and I want filmmaking to be a forum in which I create my next babies. The three films featured on this page were all screened at the Royal Scottish Academy over a period of 3 years and were all filmed and edited in a day. They are funny, reflective and I see them as a triptych of being Mid-century. I will not make anymore in this series. Processed and done.
I am an avid editor. I like technology. I am comfortable making a film on my phone as I am using a broadcast camera. I like talking & dancing. Walter Murch and Andrea Arnold are my fantasy coffee dates. You can get in touch via e-mail: sarastroud56@gmail.com or my mobile.
